LOL

I was wasting some time today and this just cracked me up. What a wild child!
Jack is really into picking out his own clothes (he must pick out his shirt otherwise we have a morning meltdown), and I just fear that this will be him someday in our family photos.
Tell me you thought it was funny too.

The Story

The Lucy Story
About 1:30 or 1:45am, I was awakened by some pretty good contractions and was unable to go back to sleep. Knowing we were going to be induced about 5am didn’t help my nerves to settle. Around 2:15 I woke up Erik and told him we needed to call his family so that Linda could come over and stay with Jack. 2:30ish she came and we went. I got into triage about 3am and was still having pretty bad contractions, finally after what seemed like Forever, the nurse came in to check me and said “Wow you’re a 6, let’s get you admitted.” Again after what seemed like FOREVER (but I’m sure it can’t have been that long), we were wheeled back to a delivery room. I suppose when you are in pain everything seems to take a long time, but I think it was about 3:40 and we were in the delivery room and I was getting hooked up to all the machines and signing consent forms and whatnot. I hate that they make you sign those when you are in pain, it is just oh so mean.
About 4am I felt something, well to be honest it felt like Lucy was trying to stick a fist through. I told the nurses and they checked me and were just as surprised as I to find that I was 10! “Better call the Dr.,” the nurse said, “she’s a 10 and wanting to push.” Right then the anesthesiologist came in. I was sad, I really thought, dang they aren’t gonna give me anything. He asked how far away the Dr. was and was given the response of “20-25 minutes.”Ug was my thought, I want to push NOW and I don’t want this pain! Lucky for me I got the nicest guy and he asked me if I wanted something for the pain for those 25 minutes. “Yes, please.” So he gave me a spinal block that numbed me instantly and was just enough so that I didn’t feel that overwhelming desire to push but could still feel the pressure but I was able to make it till the Dr. got here. About 4:15, Dr. Huish arrived and got himself all prepared and everything. I was feeling pretty good at that point, but was defiantly ready to welcome Lucy to the world. After just a few pushes at 4:31 AM, she came out in all her glory with the cord around her neck. Luckily it was a lose cord and was only wrapped around once. They un-wrapped the cord and she promptly grabbed onto the cord with her hand. At this point Erik had to go and sit down (again-he had to sit down several times during the process), he was looking a little pale, and I got to hold my little princess. There are a lot of great things about my labor being so quick and not having to be induced, however there were some downsides as well. I was GBS positive and they wanted to get 2 doses of penicillin in me before Lucy came but they barely got one full dose in me. This would result in us having to spend an extra day in the hospital, which in and of itself would not have been in to bad if Lucy hadn’t picked a very busy night to be born on. They didn’t have any open post-partum room’s open, so I was stuck in the labor room for 2 days before I got to move over for the last night. The labor room wasn’t bad per say but the bed was awful. I couldn’t sleep at all!

All in all, it was a good experience, although next time I don’t think I’ll wait an hour after I start contracting, I’ll just go straight in. Thanks Darby for the great photos.

Lucy Aleen

Arrived all on her own on January 7th at 4:31 AM. Labor was short and fast. I woke up at 1:30AM(ish) with contractions and she came just 3 hours later. She was 8lbs 4oz and 19.5 inches long.

More of the story to come so check back in a few days...and if you don't want to know...well then...don't...

Ready or Not...

here she comes....

I went to the Dr. today. I got an ultrasound. Everything looks good to go. The fluid is low so we are scheduled for induction bright and early tomorrow. So hopefully everything goes well and sometime tomorrow we will have our precious little girl!

Wish me/us luck!
